The Walk to Emmaus

"Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus.  While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them...their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight.  They said to each other, 'Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?' "

The Gospel of Luke 24:13, 15, 31-32

Community Chairperson Message

Luke 24:24-29

Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.

He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!  Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”  And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther.  But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.”  So he went in to stay with them.

Can you imagine inviting Jesus into your home to stay with you?  Isn’t that exactly what he does?  And what he has done for you?  He is always present, and has given us His Peace.  He then brings people in our lives to demonstrate his love and grace that he has given us; people to encourage us and to love us and to speak truth to us.  He calls us to be the Body of Christ, his hands and feet.

The Walk to Emmaus ministry calls us to live out Christian action by making Christ’s love real in the World.  After our Walk to Emmaus in our 4th day, we go back into our churches and communities to serve.  We pray for each other, encourage one another, hold each other accountable in our Reunion Groups and stand side by side sharing God’s love and grace through the acts of service.  We don’t go it alone we have Christ in us and we are part of the Body of Christ.

It takes each of us and Christ is counting on us.  Whether you went on your Walk recently or 5, 10, or more than 20 years ago, you are needed.  There are many ways to serve whether on a team or in 4th Day Community Servanthood.

Christ is also counting on you to share His love and grace with others.  Will you share the Walk to Emmaus experience with others?  We have 4 more Walks this year - 2 Summer Walks and 2 Fall Walks - both men and women.  Without sponsorship Walk to Emmaus would cease to exist.

As you probably heard, our Summer Walks are a Monday to Thursday program.  We stepped out on faith to change the program for the Summer Walks to allow those who serve in our churches to attend, but it’s open to all.  We currently have 5 men registered and 6 women.  We have no doubt God will bless us with Pilgrims for the Summer Walks, but he is counting on us to share the message and sponsor.
